Plumbing services in Frederick
Southwest Weld County, 26 miles out
Frederick began as a coal-mining settlement called McKissick and was renamed for Frederick A. Clark. Today it is a statutory town of 14,513 people (2020 Census) and one of the Carbon Valley Tri-Towns with Firestone and Dacono. Downtown Denver is about 26 miles away in a straight line, and Longmont is the nearest larger city. State Highway 52 marks part of the boundary with Dacono, I-25 runs through town, and places like Evanston, Centennial Park, Milavec Lake and Bella Rosa Golf Course help locals describe where they live. It has grown into a fast-growing family suburb.
Three water providers, split by the interstate
The Town says three entities supply drinking water inside town limits. Every resident east of I-25 is a Town of Frederick water customer, including the Evanston area. Left Hand Water District serves residents west of I-25. Central Weld County Water District also serves part of town. The Town's supply is Colorado-Big Thompson water, snowmelt from the Colorado River headwaters stored in Lake Granby and delivered to Carter Lake, plus Town-owned Windy Gap units, some kept in Dry Creek Reservoir. It is treated under agreement at Central Weld's Carter Lake Filter Plant west of Berthoud and disinfected with chlorine. Town water billing is at (720) 382-5500. The Town has inventoried its service lines and will tell you your line's material if you call 720-382-5801.
Sewer and backups
St. Vrain Sanitation District collects and treats Frederick's wastewater at its plant on Weld County Road 26. The district treats the building sewer line as the owner's pipe, and it staffs a 24-hour line for backups at (303) 776-9570.
Backflow rules worth knowing
The Town Engineering Department runs Frederick's cross-connection program under state rules. Assemblies must be tested at installation and once a year by a certified tester, with reports sent to the Town and to Aqua Backflow. Irrigation systems generally need a reduced pressure (RP) assembly; double check assemblies are not allowed for irrigation. Single-family homes are encouraged to test irrigation backflow every three years. Questions go to 720-382-5807.
Permits and inspections
The Town of Frederick Building Department at 401 Locust Street handles permits, inspections and contractor licensing, with inspections done by the Town or its partner CAA. The permit technician is at 720-382-5516 and the inspection line at 720-382-5620. Inspectors may confirm the identity of the plumber named on a permit and can fail an inspection until that is verified. The pages we reviewed did not say whether a water heater swap needs a permit, so ask the department.
Gas emergencies
Frederick is Black Hills Energy territory. If you smell gas, get out of the house, then call 911 and Black Hills Energy from outside; the emergency number is on your gas bill.
Frederick compared with Denver
Instead of a single city water utility, a Frederick homeowner first has to know which side of I-25 the house is on. Sewer runs through a sanitation district and gas through Black Hills rather than Xcel. When you call the number on this page, tell us what is wrong and whether the main valve is closed, and you will be connected with an independent plumber who works in Frederick. You and that plumber agree on cost and timing.
