If a pipe bursts in your Superior home, close the main valve right away and stay away from wet outlets. A plumber can cut out the failed section, replace it and check the service line if needed. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Superior.

Superior's water system and the owner's share
The Town of Superior's Public Works and Utilities department runs water and sewer inside town limits through Superior Metropolitan District No. 1. Its rules give the homeowner a bigger share than many systems do. The district owns the tap, corporation stop, meter, meter pit and curb stop up to the meter pit outlet; the property owner owns and maintains the water service line from the meter pit outlet to the building, including any part that runs under the public right-of-way. The owner also owns the whole sewer service line to the main. The district can require repairs within 72 hours of notice, so a yard-line leak isn't something to put off.
Superior grew from a coal-mining and ranching settlement into a suburban town off US-36, and much of Original Town and Sagamore was rebuilt after the December 2021 Marshall Fire, so many houses have newer plumbing. Freeze breaks still happen in lines along exterior walls, in garages and over unheated spaces.
Splice or replace?
| Situation | Typical approach |
|---|---|
| Single crack in good pipe | Cut out the damaged length and splice |
| Multiple breaks along one wall | Replace the run |
| Leak on the service line past the meter pit | Excavate and repair, even under the street edge |
| Line routed through a cold garage | Insulate or reroute |
Signs to look for
- Water coming through a ceiling or light fixture
- Faucets losing pressure all at once
- Rushing water in a wall when nothing is on
- Wet ground between the meter pit and house
- A sudden spike on the water bill
Timing and town contacts
Superior's worst freeze damage usually comes with a sudden cold front, and the leak often shows up the next day. For an emergency on the district's side, Superior's after-hours emergency hotline is 303-554-9086; the Town office is 303-499-3675. Building permits are issued by the Town's Building Department, operated by SAFEbuilt (303-381-2028). If the cold also damaged the water heater, Superior requires a permit for its installation, plus an expansion tank where backflow prevention is on the system. Once the repair is done, take a minute to find and label the main shutoff, and make sure everyone in the house knows how to close it; in a burst, the first few minutes decide how much drywall and flooring has to come out.
